Lust v2 User Guide

Hello, and thank you for supporting Magpie Pedals and getting yourself one of my effect pedals! Please feel free to use it with guitar, bass, synths, vocals or anything in between.

The pedal uses 9VDC power (2.1mm jack: center-negative).

Input is on the right side (black ring) and output is on the left (white ring).

Triple Bypass:

This pedal uses a unique bypass switching system that I call “Triple Bypass”, where you have three different “modes” for turning the pedal on and off:

  1. Short Press: Works like any regular pedal. Press to turn it on and then press to turn it off.
  2. Momentary/Hold: If you press and hold for about 1-2 seconds the pedal will enter a hold mode. Here it will simply stay in the state it entered when pressing down the button, for however long you decide to hold down the button, and then return when you release the button. So if you press down when the pedal is turned OFF it will stay ON for as long as you hold the button pressed down, and vice versa.
  3. Tap Tempo Bypass: If you quickly double tap the bypass button (either when on or off) the pedal will enter the Tap Tempo Bypass mode. Here the pedal automatically turns itself on/off in whichever tempo you tap. So to change tempo you simply tap a new tempo.

N.B. Lust v2 continuously counts the time since your last tap. So if you have been in a tempo for some time and give the footswitch another single tap, it will set your new tempo based on the time between the pervious tap and the new tap - upto a maxium length of around 1min.

To exit Tap Tempo Bypass you simply press and hold the button for about 2 seconds. Note that when exiting this mode the pedal will be ON (regardless of if the pedal is in an OFF or ON state).

Controls:

Lust V.2 is a PT2399 double delay plus reverb, with as many creative options I could fit! Choose between series/parallel, mono/stereo with one input or two inputs, Fx Loop and expression control. Whatever you lust for!

It’s seperated into two delay-lines - a Pink (top) channel and a Brown (bottom) channel, each with identical knob setups. I wanted using the pedal to be as simple as possible so you can focus on getting lost in the sounds.

I have also included a feedback button and an expression jack. Both of these are setup on the Pink channel, and because Pink comes first when you set the pedal in “series” it let’s you “play” the first delay signal and then have that echo through the brown channel. Very fun!

Right Footswitch: Effect (Triple) Bypass - see above.

Left Footswitch: Feedback button. Works very much together with the Pink “X” and “F” knobs. Shorter delay times mean that the feedback “load” will charge up faster, and having the “F” knob set to low will make the feedback footswitch not work at all.

The two left-hand “X” knobs are your Mix control: from 100% dry, to introducing delay, to slight overdriving of the delay lines

The central “F” knobs are your Repeats/Feedback control. Send it fully clockwise to make the pedal self-oscillate (more in shorter delay times).

The right-hand “T” knob controls your Delay-Time. Turn it counterclockwise for shorter delay-times and clockwise for longer delay times. It works together with the Expression control so you can dial in the spectrum or range of the expression pedal. Turn it Counterclockwise for broader spectrum.

The S/P: switch sets the delay-lines either in Series (up) or in Parallel (down). Easy as that! This also effects how the 3.5mm input/output works. Use Paralell to explore your sounds in stereo.

The 3.5mm “I” input jack allows you send two different signals into Lust - one for each delay channel. Nasically, this is like having two individual delay pedals in one!

The 3.5mm “O” output jack cuts the Pink delay out from the signal path. For example, if you put the S/P switch to Parallel you can then connect the two different output signals to a mixer - stereo shenanigans may follow! It also means that the Reverb will only be on one of the channels - which is actually kinda cool!

N.B. You can of course take this second output signal and run it through some other stuff before you go back in through the “I” jack - like an fx loop.

The mini-knob “R” next to I and O is a Reverb control that comes after both delays. This is as simple as it gets: just goes from dry to wet!

Expression Jack: On the back of Lust there is an expression pedal input (the middle jack). This is connected straight to the Pink knobs so that you can move around in time with your foot. This is especially fun when the two delays are set in series since the Pink delay is the first delay.
